Top-seeded Plainview Bears and defending AHSAA Class 3A state champions claimed the Area 14 Tournament title with a 15-0 mercy-rule win in four innings against No. 3-seeded Sylvania last week.
Lily Boswell and Tessa Word linked delivered a no-hitter in the championship-round finale at the Rainsville Sports Complex. Boswell struck out eight and walked none over three innings, while Word walked one in relief.
Kylee Dutton scored the first run of the game at the bottom of the second, while Word added a run off a hit from Boswell and Jada Hampton scored on a fly ball from Kadie Brooks. Brooks scored following a double from Mallory Lindsey for a 5-0 over the Rams.
Continuing their offensive push Ali Price, Mia Tidmore, and Abby Williams all added runs, while Word nailed a two-run homer extending the Bears’ lead to 10-0.
Williams scattered three hits with two RBIs and two runs scored, Hampton doubled on three hits with two runs and an RBI and Hannah Regula doubled on two hits with RBIs and two runs. Lindsey drove in two runs with a double and Pirce doubled on two hits, an RBI and two runs as Plainview cruised past the Rams.
Sylvania’s Kyndell Sammons allowed six runs on seven hits over two and third innings.
In Game 1, Boswell stuck out 14, allowing one hit and walking none as the Bears shutout Sylvania 10-0 in the double-elimination championship round.
Regula started things off the Bears at the top of the first, scoring off a hit from Hampton. Brooks and Lindsey picked up runs at the top of the second of a triple from Williams. Tidmore added a 4-0 lead in the fourth before Word fired off a two-run home run extending their advantage to 6-0 in the top of the sixth inning.
Boswell, Hampton, Brooks and Lindsey picked up runs for a 10-0 victory over the Rams.
Harlee Turner took the loss for Sylvania, allowing four hits for three runs and walking one. Turner recorded the Rams’ lone hit for the evening.
Plainview and Sylvania both advanced to this week’s AHSAA East Central Regionals at Sand Mountain Park in Albertville, with play kicking off Tuesday morning.
Plainview was scheduled to play Ohatchee on Tuesday, May 10 at 12:45 p.m. The game was not completed before press time.
