The Ider Police Department has made multiple felony arrests recently, resulting in Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and Chemical Endangerment of a Child charges.
Two of the arrests stemmed from suspects allegedly hiding methamphetamine inside of a pizza during a traffic stop.
Police Chief Stephen Malone initiated a traffic stop last Wednesday on a vehicle for multiple violations.
During the traffic stop, a female driver was determined to have multiple felony warrants, one being for Chemical Endangerment of a Child. The male passenger was found to be in possession of the controlled substance Alprazolam (Xanax).
The driver and passenger were arrested, and the Department of Human Resources was contacted due to there being three children in the vehicle at the time of arrest.
During a search of the vehicle, two recently purchased pizza boxes were opened and officers observed suspected methamphetamine stuffed inside one of the slices.
At this point, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics unit was contacted and responded to the scene.
Between of the adults arrested on the following charges:
• Three charges of Possession of a controlled substance, (Methamphetamine/Alprazolam)
• Two charges of Chemical Endangerment of a Child, (Food laced with Methamphetamine)
• Two charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia,
• Four total warrants were served
The police department did not release the names or mugshots of the individuals involved due to the safety, welfare, and protection of the children involved.

While processing a wreck on October 4, on Highway 75, Assistant Chief Newsome observed one of the drivers was possibly intoxicated and acting erratically.
Newsome observed drug paraphernalia in plain view of the wrecked vehicle, and upon further investigation, Fentanyl and Methamphetamine were located. Ultimately leading to the driver’s arrest.
It was later determined the driver also held multiple felony warrants with the states of Georgia and Tennessee.
He will be awaiting extradition after facing his charges here in Alabama.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Narcotics unit arrived on the scene to assist with the wreck and drug investigation.
“It appears that the drug use in our community continues to increase, resulting in children being affected more and more, and possibly even causing accidents on our roadways,” said Malone. “It’s a never-ending problem and I’m thankful the sheriff’s office and all surrounding agencies are working vigorously to just put a dent in this drug epidemic. The saddest part is the children who are helpless in these situations, facing trauma, and ultimately suffering the consequences of others’ actions. We ultimately need thoughts and prayers for all families being affected by drug addiction.”
