Bears Win 4th Straight
The Plainview Lady Bears ran through Fyffe, Geraldine, and Sylvania on their way to a fourth consecutive Dekalb County Tournament Championship last week. Tessa Word was brilliant in the pitcher’s circle on Tuesday, April 23, as she threw a no-hitter to lead Plainview past Fyffe 10-0. The Lady Bears got on the board in the first inning when Crimson Wells homered on a 0-1 count, scoring three runs. Plainview notched three runs in the third inning. Jayla Gravitt and Jacey Crowell, who each had RBIs in the inning, led the offensive firepower for the Lady Bears. Word got the win for Plainview Bears Varsity. She lasted five innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out three. Morris took the loss for Fyffe. She surrendered seven runs on ten hits over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Plainview tallied two home runs on the day. Wells went for the long ball in the first inning. Elaine Puckett had a homer in the fourth inning. The Lady Bears scattered 14 hits in the game. Wells, Gravitt, Puckett, Kenzi Traylor, and Crowell all managed multiple hits for Plainview. Crowell, Traylor, Puckett, Gravitt, and Wells each managed two hits to lead the Lady Bears. Plainview didn’t commit a single error in the field. Tobi Trotter had the most chances with six. Fyffe was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
The Lady Bears took the lead late against Geraldine and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 6-2 on Wednesday. The game was tied at two with Plainview batting in the bottom of the fifth when Word doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. After Geraldine scored one run in the top of the third, the Lady Bears answered with one of their own. The Lady Bulldogs scored when Tinsley Satterfield singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Plainview then answered when Krimson Kidd doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Word earned the victory in the circle for the Lady Bears. She surrendered two runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out one and walking zero. Lily Boswell threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Plainview tallied one home run on the day. Kenzi Traylor went yard in the sixth inning. The Lady Bears tallied ten hits in the game. Kidd, Word, and Traylor each had multiple hits for Plainview. Traylor, Word, and Kidd each collected two hits leading the Lady Bears. Plainview, once again, didn’t commit a single error. Crimson Wells had the most chances in the field with four.
Both teams were strong on the mound in game three for Plainview, but the Lady Bears defeated Sylvania Lady Rams 2-1. Boswell allowed just two hits to Sylvania. In the second inning, Plainview got their offense started when Word singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. Boswell was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears. She surrendered one run on two hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Plainview racked up eight hits on the day. Wells and Word each had multiple hits for the Lady Bears. Wells led the Lady Bears with three hits in three at-bats.
