Plainview bested Geradine 8-0 during last week’s Class 3A AHSAA East Central Regional game, taking the crowd and advancing to the state tournament.
Lily Boswell led the Bears on the mound allowing no runs on two hits and striking out 12 for a complete game.
Plainview captured an early lead when Hannah Regula singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Tessa Word and Jada Hampton scored on a fly ball from Kadie Brooks in the first inning for a 4-0 advantage.
The Bears tallied 11 hits as Mia Tidmore, Mallory Lindsey, and Abby Williams scattered runs for an 8-0 victory over the Bulldogs. The win earned Plainview (44-5) the No.1 seed in the state tourney in Oxford.
Geraldine’s Emilee Oliver allowed 11 hits and eight runs over seven innings. The Bulldogs’ closed their season with a 27-13-1 overall record, an Area 12 runner-up distinction, and a runner-up finish in the 2022 DeKalb County Softball Tournament.
This week, defending Class 3A champions Plainview returns among six others to defend their titles. These include Class 7A Hewitt Trussville, Class 5A Satsume, Class 4A North Jackson, Class 2A Orange Beach, and Class 1A Brantley.
Plainview 6, Ohatchee 0
On Tuesday, May 10, Plainview’s Tessa Word pitched a no-hitter against Ohatchee during last week’s opening round of regionals, as the Bears blasted past Ohatchee 6-0.
Word struck out 14 and walked none over seven innings.
Abby Williams and Hannah Regula kicked things off in the first inning for Plainview before pulling away for good with four runs in the second inning.
Ashlynn Price scored on a single from Williams. Mia Tidmore and Williams scored on a fly ball from Word for a 5-0 advantage. Regula took the final run for the Bears at the bottom of the second as Plainview held on to their lead tallying nine hits in the game.
Kylee Barnes took the loss for Ohatchee, surrendering six runs on nine hits over six innings and striking out two.
Plainview 10, Hokes Bluff 0
Lily Boswell led the Bears to victory on the mound, striking out eight, walking one, and allowing one hit and no runs over six innings.
Hampton got things moving at the bottom of the second, as Williams and Word added runs in the third and Brooks scored off a triple from Tidmore in the fourth.
Heading into the six-inning with a 4-0 advantage, Plainview added six more runs in the sixth driven by singles from Abby Williams and Kadie Brooks, a triple from Mia Tidmore and an error on a ball put in play by Jada Hampton.
Hokes Bluff’s Kileigh Blackwell, allowed seven hits and four runs, striking out three and walking one over five innings. Gracie Blair led Hokes Bluff 1-for-2 at the plate.
